The Maruti Suzuki India Limited has launched the sedan SX4 back in 2007 in C2 segment. The refreshed versions have been launched in 2013. The company is discontinuing the sedan in 2015. Presently there are 7 variants for the SX4. The VXi, the ZXi, the ZXi(O) are in petrol and the VDi, ZDi and ZDi(O) in diesel. The VXi CNG is a CNG variant. The prices of the SX4 sedan are Rupees 7.15 to 9.54 lakh. The MSIL will be shortly launching the Crossover S Cross SX4 in the Indian market based on the SX4 platform. The SX4 has been the first car in the segment provided with air bags and steering mounted audio controls.
The SX4 comes in colours of silky silver, serene blue, granite grey, glistening grey, pearl arctic white and clear beige. The 2013 SX4 has an attractive exterior with massive wheel arches to accommodate 16” wheels, an upright wind screen, elongated wrap around head lights, a honeycomb grille, twin fog lamps, oversized tail lamp clusters and reflectors on the rear bumper.

The cabin of the sedan SX4 is luxurious and spacious. The standard features include an engine immobiliser, central and child lock facilities, a manual AC system, power windows, power steering with height adjustment, fabric seats and a CD player with auxiliary and USB inputs. The top petrol and diesel variants have an automatic AC system, 2 air bags at the front, ABS, EBD. Leather seats, a multi functional steering wheel, fog lamps at both the ends and rain sensing wipers additionally.
The petrol variants of the SX4 are powered by 1586 cc, 105 ps and 145 NM torque engines giving mileages of 15.5 kmpl. The diesel cars have 1248 cc, 90 ps and 200 NM torque engines with mileages of 21.5 to 21.79 kmpl. The petrol variants take 11.5 seconds for 0 to 100 kmph acceleration and the diesel ones 13 seconds. The top speeds are 177 kmph for the petrol and 154 kmph for the diesel variants. The minimum turning circle is 5.3 m.
The dimensions of the Maruti SX4 are 4500 mm length, 1735 mm width, 1550 mm height, 2500 mm wheel base and 170 mm ground clearance. The boot volume is 505 litres. The suspensions are independent gas filled McPherson strut with anti roll bar at the front and semi independent torsion beam with gas filled shock absorbers at the rear. The tyres are 205/60 R-16” type.
Attractive looks, spacious cabins and good performances are the plus points of the car. High maintenance costs and comparatively poor mileages are disadvantageous for the car. The competition comes from the cars like the Hyundai Fluidic Verna, the Volkswagen Vento and the Ford Fiesta.
